Miami Dade College North Campus to Once Again Host Food Distribution Event Aug. 16

Food Dist

Miami, August 7, 2014 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus is gearing up for back-to-school with its ongoing free food distribution to needy students and families, beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 16. More than 100 volunteers – including MDC students – will hand out food packages including fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, and other grocery items.

This is the third food distribution event at the North Campus, which is presented by Florida State Representative for District 109 Cynthia Stafford andFarm Share, a non-profit organization that helps distribute food to families facing hardships.

“I am pleased to partner with MDC - North Campus for another Farm Share Free Food Distribution,” said Rep. Stafford. “MDC is not only an institution of academic excellence, but it is also an institution of community excellence, recognizing the real problem of hunger that many in the community face. I am hopeful that thousands will get food that day and will not have to go to bed hungry.”

Farm Share provides surplus food and distributes it free of charge to individuals, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, churches, and other organizations feeding the needy in our state.

“North Campus is honored to lend a helping hand to address food insecurity in our community,” said Malou C. Harrison, president North Campus.

Food will be available on a first come, first-served basis while supplies last.
