MDC Homestead Campus to Collaborate with the Homestead & Florida City Chambers of Commerce to Create Young Entrepreneurs in the Community

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Continuing Education will be participating in a national program geared toward helping local students in grades 6 through 12 learn the process of starting a running a real business. The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Program, in collaboration with MDC, will give students the opportunity to work closely with local business leaders to cultivate and research business ideas, write a business plan, pitch their plan to a panel of investors, obtain funding, develop their brand, participate in a trade show at the end of the year, and actually launch their enterprise.

MDC’s School of Business and Center for Financial Training to Host Future Banker’s Camp

Throughout the month of June, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Business and the Center for Financial Training will host a Future Banker’s Camp, sponsored by the South Florida Workforce Investment Board (SFWIB) and several local banks committed to providing hands-on experience for high school students interested in careers in the financial services industry. The educational component is currently underway. Internships will run June 17 – 28.

MDC’s Head Women’s Basketball Coach Susan Summons to be Honored as a New England Basketball Hall of Fame Icon

– For her extraordinary career on and off the court, Miami Dade College (MDC) Head Women’s Basketball Coach Susan Summons will be honored as an “Icon” of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 22 at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass. This is a year of great recognition for Summons, as she is also being inducted into the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in July.

Miami Dade College’s Physician Assistant Students Continue to Rack up Successes

A group of Physician Assistant (PA) students hailing from Miami Dade College (MDC) brought home top honors recently in the National Challenge Bowl Competition. The annual event, which coincides with the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) conference, took place in Washington, D.C., late last month.

Miami Dade College’s Museum Studies Program Gives Students Unique Exposure to Exploring Artifacts, Travel and High-Level Curatorial Work

As Miami takes over as the art hub of the Southeastern United States, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) two-semester Museum Studies course continues to give students real-world experience and open doors for careers in the exciting world of museum operations. Since the program began two years ago, students have secured jobs and internships at local galleries, cultural centers and museums as far away as Anchorage, Alaska.

Miami-Dade County Mayor and Miami Dade College (MDC) alumnus Carlos Gimenez recently appointed MDC Provost Dr. Rolando Montoya to the South Florida Workforce Investment Board. South Florida Workforce is responsible for initiating state and federal funded workforce development programs in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.

MDC Nursing Professor Dr. Marie Etienne to Receive Prestigious Florence Nightingale Medal from American Red Cross

Miami Dade College (MDC) nursing professor Dr. Marie O. Etienne has spent much of her career providing medical aid to underserved and disaster-impacted communities. For her dedicated service, Dr. Etienne will receive the highest international distinction a nurse can receive – the prestigious Florence Nightingale Medal by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
