Black Girlhood Explored, Exalted Through Dance

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) MDC Live Arts and Miami Dade County Auditorium present the South Florida premiere of the Camille A. Brown’s Black Girl: Linguistic Play, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20 at Miami Dade County Auditorium. The provocative and poignant piece represents a nuanced spectrum of black girlhood in a world where black women are often only portrayed in terms of their strength, resiliency, or trauma.

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Museum of Art + Design (MOA+D), in collaboration with the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives, is pleased to present 75 Years of EFE Images: Wars, Triumphs, Disasters, People and Politics. The exhibition features more than 75 photographs from Agencia EFE, the world’s leading Spanish-language news agency, will open to the public Wednesday, Feb. 17, at MOA+D located within the college’s Historic Freedom Tower. Monica Bellucci, Iciar Bollaín, Gavin Hood and Deepa Mehta will all receive tributes in a new Marquee Series to be presented at the 33rd edition of Miami Dade College’s Miami International Film Festival scheduled for March 4 - 13, 2016, it was announced today. Additionally, Andrew Currie's comedy The Steps, starring James Brolin, will receive its US premiere at the Festival as the Closing Night selection. The Festival is the only major film festival worldwide produced by a college or university.

Miami Dade College Again Offers Free Tax Preparation at Six Campuses

Miami Dade College (MDC) continues its long-standing tradition of offering free tax preparation services to low-income individuals, the elderly, and non-English speaking residents throughout Miami-Dade County as part of the Internal Revenue’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). Administered and staffed by MDC School of Business faculty and students, services will begin Tuesday, Feb. 1, at various MDC campuses through April. Federal income tax returns must be in the mail and postmarked no later than April 18, 2016.

Oscar Nominee, Mustang, Opens Tomorrow at Miami Dade College’s Tower Theater

Following its international nomination as the Oscars’ best foreign-language film, Miami Dade College’s acclaimed Tower Theater is thrilled to open a week-long commercial run of, Mustang, on Friday, Jan. 15. MDC’s The Reporter Once Again Named Top Student Newspaper in the State Fifth Year in a Row

Miami Dade College’s The Reporter has been named the top state college student newspaper in Florida for the fifth straight year. The Reporter staff placed in 15 out of 18 individual categories – including twelve first-place awards – at the recent Florida College System Publications Association (FCSPA) awards banquet in Orlando. The paper has won 74 awards from the FCSPA in the past five years, including 47 first-place honors.

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Museum of Art + Design (MOA+D) and Arango Design Foundation have partnered to establish a design collecting initiative and platform for public awareness and education of modern and contemporary industrial design. The partnership will include a dedicated gallery space at the Museum to display its diverse collection of design objects from 1950 to present. The official announcement for the partnership will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday Sept. 26, at the Arango Design Store, 5864 Sunset Dr., South Miami. The announcement will coincide with the first donation to the collection, a Philippe Starck designed Juicy Salif citrus squeezer, celebrating its 25th year in production by the famed Italian design company, Alessi. Miami Dade College (MDC) alumnus Jeffrey Romeu has been appointed to the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Foundation Alumni Council. Romeu graduated from MDC Hialeah Campus and is currently a student at George Washington University’s Elliott School of Foreign Service. He is the youngest member of the Alumni Council and the first MDC alumnus to ever serve in this capacity.

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Museum of Art + Design (MOA+D) and the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives have received a major donation of photographs from Agencia EFE, the world’s leading Spanish-language news agency.
