The Season of Book Fair

Autumn brings many gifts - the cooler weather, the long-lost breeze from the bay and the promise of family and celebration among them. For us at MDC, fall also means colored tents, a cozy read on a balcony and wall-to-wall books. It's our literary harvest, the Season of Book Fair.

The 2006 edition of Miami Book Fair International, scheduled for November 12-19, promises all the treasures we've come to expect and much more. This year, the Fair will Flirt with the Classics, entertaining the works of classical musicians, artists and writers; lure us to the Mystery Stage with renowned Edgar Award winners; and confront the issues of the day via Current Affairs Panels, among a host of other special attractions. As usual, the Fair offers the excitement of Children's Alley, the International Village, our Latin authors contingent, Evenings With and of course, the Congress of Authors and Street Fair on November 17-19.

You also have the unmatched opportunity to participate in presenting this wonderful event. Log on to www.mdc.edu/bookfair/volunteer/volunteer_sign.aspx and sign on to volunteer for Book Fair duty. Plenty of time slots and a variety of roles await you. For general information, log on to the Book Fair website at http://www.miamibookfair.com/.

The nation's premier literary event is about to unfold and I hope you will be there to enjoy it. All the events at the Book Fair are free of charge to students and employees of the College. Remember to bring your employee ID.

Thanks are due to the staff of the Florida Center for the Literary Arts (FCLA), FCLA executive director Alina Interián, Book Fair director Delia Lopez and the many Book Fair volunteers at the College and throughout the community who make this wonderful event possible.

I hope to see you at the Fair.

Thank you.

Eduardo
