MDC Named to Prestigious List of 25 "Saviors of Our Cities" Institutions

As all of you are aware, MDC is an integral component in nearly every aspect of South Florida's development. Those contributions have been recognized in a national study that identified the top 25 urban colleges and universities for efforts that have strengthened the economy and quality of life of their communities.

Dr. Evan Dobelle, president of the New England Board of Higher Education, noted that these "Saviors of our Cities" institutions "have given a sense of confidence and hope as well as stability to cities." MDC is joined by the University of Southern California, University of Pennsylvania, University of Chicago, George Washington University, Emory University, and Carnegie Mellon University among the top 25 group.

Criteria for this recognition included the institution's longstanding involvement with the community; the catalytic effect on additional partners; the institution's overall economic impact in the region; faculty and student involvement in community service; sustained neighborhood initiatives; and the impact on access and affordability through K-12 partnerships.

An additional criteria was the "qualitative esprit" of the institution in its engagement. This is a tribute to each one of you. Your enthusiasm and dedication has made MDC the catalyst and community partner that it is today. I thank you for this continued effort and congratulate everyone on this wonderful recognition.

Thank you.
