MDC Receives $2 Million Grant From National Science Foundation
I am pleased to announce that The National Science Foundation has awarded Miami Dade College with a five-year $2 million grant.
The College will use the grant money to create a program called Tools for Success. Launching in the spring of 2008, Tools for Success will be housed at Wolfson and Kendall Campuses and will target students -- specifically, under-represented minority groups -- who are interested in studying for careers in the STEM fields -- science, technology, engineering and math.
Tools for Success is expected to reshape the way students view the scientific fields and better prepare them for the challenges they will face in the future, while helping to fill the critical workforce shortages in STEM areas nationwide.
I would like to thank Dr. Guillermina Damas, Chair of the Department of Natural Sciences, Health and Wellness at the Wolfson Campus; Professors Chris Migliaccio and Arnold Fleisch for their hard work in securing funds for this important educational endeavor.
Thank you.
Eduardo
