Participation in the Community College Surveys of Student Engagement

This spring, Miami Dade College will once again participate in a national student and faculty survey focusing on teaching, learning and retention in community colleges. The Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) examines student engagement and retention issues and the Community College Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (CCFSSE) is designed to mirror the CCSSE in an effort to facilitate comparisons between student and faculty responses.

MDC participated in the 2004 survey and received above-average ratings in all five benchmark areas, including "student effort" and "academic challenge." We hope the 2007 survey results will identify further opportunities for creating environments that enhance student learning, development and retention.

Beginning on March 10 and continuing through April 7, the student survey will be administered in approximately 122 MDC classes, randomly selected by CCSSE to ensure a representative sample. Instructors whose classes are selected for survey administration will receive specific information from their Campus Testing Directors. The faculty of these surveyed classes will be invited via email to participate in the CCFSSE online survey.

MDC is committed to excellence and your cooperation and participation in these national surveys will enhance our educational programs and services to students.

For questions related to the CCSSE and CCFSSE project at MDC, please contact Silvio Rodriguez, director of test administration and program evaluation, at 305-237-7492.

Thank you to Dr. Norma Goonen, the department of Institutional Research, under Dr. Joanne Bashford's leadership, and the Campus Testing Directors for their assistance and support with this important initiative.

Thank you.

Eduardo
