Monitoring Tropical Storm Noel
As South Florida sways under the high winds of Tropical Storm Noel, I would like to encourage you to prepare for the possibility of rough weather ahead of us. While Tropical Storm Noel took an unexpected jog over Cuba this morning, forecasters said that the storm could reintensify into a Category 1 hurricane Wednesday as it passes over or near Andros Island in the Bahamas.
South Florida is under a high wind advisory until late tomorrow, so the National Weather Service advises residents to stay off the beach, secure loose outdoor objects and exercise special care while driving over bridges and causeways. This advisory could be upgraded to a tropical storm watch or warning later today.
The Miami Dade College Emergency Planning Team is monitoring the track of the storm and maintaining regular contact with officials in our community and throughout the state.
Keeping in touch: We will continue to monitor Tropical Storm Noel's progress and provide additional information and instructions, if necessary, on the MDC Hotline and web site.
Preparations: Please use this time to review emergency plans at the workplace and home so they may be quickly implemented, if necessary, at any point during this hurricane season.
In the event that the College does close during hurricane season, please call the MDC Employee Hotline at least once daily to receive instructions and the latest information regarding the status of classes and operations.
Thank you and be safe.
Eduardo
