Tragedy at Virginia Tech

The tragic shootings at Virginia Tech yesterday touch each one of us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the students and families at Virginia Tech.

Violence like this is just too random and senseless to comprehend. It weighs on each one of us. But recognizing the strength we share as a community is a valuable resource for all of us. I encourage you to lend support to each other wherever necessary.

Most importantly, please be aware of your students and any support they might need. They have been directed to seek help through the Dean of Students office at each campus if needed.

MDC’s emergency security measures are in place to respond to all manner of emergencies. Yesterday's events prompted meetings of the College's public safety team, administrative deans, campus presidents and faculty and staff from the School of Justice to review emergency response steps. Our focus is to maintain our campuses as safe havens for our students and personnel and our common purpose in teaching and learning.

Thank you.

Eduardo
