103 MDC Students to be Honored at Volunteer Service Awards Ceremony

The volunteer contributions of 103 students from across the College will be recognized at 6:00 this evening during the United States President's Volunteer Service Awards at the North Campus Lehman Theatre. The event will be hosted by Myrka Dellanos, Univision Television host and member of the President's Council on Civic Participation and Service.

The Volunteer Service Awards recognize individuals who contribute a minimum of 100 service hours in a 12-month period and were created by President George W. Bush in 2003.

Three MDC students, Diane Melville, Chris Miles and Valerie Gillespie, will receive lifetime awards for volunteering more than 4,000 hours. Another 100 MDC students will receive awards --16 students earning gold awards for 500 or more hours of service, nine students earning silver awards for 250 to 499 hours of service, and 75 students earning bronze awards for volunteering 100 to 249 hours.

I would like to congratulate and thank all of the award recipients for their commitment and dedication to the betterment of our community.

I would also like to thank my North Campus colleagues Diane Sloan and Jaime Anzalotta for organizing the event.

Thank you.

Eduardo
