MDC Celebrates Black History Month
Fifty years following the foundation of Negro History Week by noted scholar and historian Carter G. Woodson, President Ford expanded the celebration to a month and urged Americans to "seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history."
Miami Dade College will pay tribute to African-American culture and history during the month of February with a series of film screenings, art exhibits, performances, lectures and service projects.
The celebration officially kicks off at 10 a.m. tomorrow, February 1, at the North Campus Library, with the unveiling of a Black History Month commemorative stamp. The Medical Center Campus will host a tribute to Carter Woodson from noon to 1 p.m. in the Atrium, and Wolfson Campus will hold a Multicultural Dance Celebration at noon on the Student Life Patio.

Monday, February 4
Kendall - Opening Convocation, 9 - 9:50 a.m., Room K413
Homestead - Haitian Festival, noon -1:30 p.m, Cafe Patio
Hialeah - Black History Month Opening Ceremony, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., Pavilion
Tuesday, February 5
InterAmerican - The Spunk of Zora Neale Hurston, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Room 401
Thursday, February 7
West - Movie and Discussion: Their Eyes Were Watching God, 9:50 -11:05 a.m., Room 1269
