MDC Launches College-Wide Recycling Program

Miami Dade College has taken an important step in expanding the scope of our campus-based recycling efforts by implementing a college-wide waste-reduction program.

In partnership with the Southeastern Recycling Corporation, the College has negotiated a contract for the recycling of paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and aluminum cans on all eight MDC campuses and specified outreach centers. The placement of the various recycling containers or receptacles will be determined by each of the campuses.

You will be receiving specific recycling guidelines from your campus administration in the coming days. In the meantime, if you wish to recycle, please sort materials accordingly.

I would like to thank Judy Schmelzer and E.H. Levering for leading the charge to implement our college-wide recycling program and the campus administrative deans for their support. This program would not have been possible without the guidance of Colleen Ahern-Hettich, director of the Earth Ethics Institute, who has been a stalwart champion of recycling at the College.

Our new recycling program provides faculty, staff and students the opportunity to be part of an ecological solution to use limited resources more wisely. We can all make a difference by taking the time to recycle.

Thank you.

Eduardo
