Marking the Seventh Anniversary of 9/11

No matter where you were on Sept. 11, 2001, you undoubtedly remember the moment you found out about the attacks on our nation. Seven years have not erased the mark that these unreasonable acts have made on our country and the world, and we continue to gather together on the anniversary of 9/11 to remember what we lost.

The attitudes and divisions that gave rise to 9/11 persist. More than ever, we have an obligation as faculty, staff and students to encourage understanding within our learning community. As an academic institution, Miami Dade College plays a pivotal role in fostering education and tolerance -- knowledge and sensibilities that must extend to both our country and our world.

In marking the seventh anniversary of one of our nation's greatest tragedies, I ask you to remember the commonalities among us as citizens of a worldwide community. To remember our shared hope for peace and universal respect, and to strive each day to serve as models of civility and unity.

Thank you.

Eduardo
