MDC 2009 United Way Campaign

Now, more than ever, citizens of our county face even greater challenges. In July 2007, Miami-Dade County’s unemployment rate was 3.8 percent. In a little more than a year, this rate has increased to 5.2 percent.

With more residents unemployed, this means there are even more families that will go without basic necessities, such as food, shelter and medical assistance. This also means that children in these families face disruption in their education, which is so critical to their success.

Beginning Sept. 29, through Oct. 31, 2008, I’m asking you to join me in contributing to the 2009 MDC United Way Campaign to help our neighbors here in Miami-Dade County.

As members of the MDC community, many of us are able to pursue or provide an education for ourselves or our families, in addition to providing basic life essentials. Let us reach out and help those who have little or nothing.

Last year, the MDC United Way Goal was $95,000. The College's faculty, staff and students surpassed this goal by raising $102,000.

For the 2009 campaign, our goal is to raise at least $100,000 in support of the United Way of Miami-Dade. Your generous contribution to the College’s campaign will demonstrate that we know what it means to "live united" by helping our neighbors, here in Miami-Dade County, who are faced every day with making decisions about whether to eat or pay rent; whether to buy gas or purchase medicine.

Members of the 2009 MDC United Way Campaign Team will keep you informed of the activities at your campus. You will find a complete list of United Way Lead Ambassadors at the end of this message.

To make your contribution now, you may visit www.mdc.edu/unitedway.

Thank you for your generous support of this year’s campaign.

Eduardo
