Returning to stability

I wanted to take a few minutes to follow up with you after last week’s events. Losing colleagues and friends is among the worst experiences in the workplace. It affects everyone. And it’s all the more difficult because MDC is a vibrant place, and the effect of program cuts and certainly, personnel losses, is all the more dispiriting.

I think it’s very important for those of us who carry this institution forward to feel a sense of stability returning. We have been buffeted by economic stress for far too long, and the danger to our confidence and creativity is very real. Outside forces have taken a toll but this is our home and we need to reassert that reality.

We have taken steps to halt the encroaching effect of constant economic pressure. I believe we now have a measure of stability to withstand what we expect will continue to be less than ideal funding from the state. I believe we can move on.

I encourage each of you to be open to the possibility that we will come out of this stronger than ever and more able to provide the services our students need.

Rumors tend to fly in the aftermath of difficult days like we had last week, so I also encourage anyone who has questions or concerns to e-mail me at epadron@mdc.edu. I’ll do my best to respond to your concerns.

Thank you.

Eduardo
