MDC 2010 United Way Campaign

Last year, our College community raised more than $118,000 to support our neighbors here in Miami-Dade County. This was an extraordinary 18 percent over our goal of $100,000. Contributions like this help the United Way of Miami-Dade provide:

  • 10 days of child care ($100 per child) for 1,180 children
  • 393 families with a $300 grant toward rent, mortgage, utility and food expenses
  • 59 women with $2,000 worth of domestic violence assistance
  • 23 families with permanent housing for one year ($5,000 per family)

These numbers say it all. With an unemployment rate of more than 11 percent, more families face the prospect of going hungry, becoming homeless and, for some, the loss of and/or separation from family members.

Please join me in upholding the College’s tradition of generosity in supporting our community. Exceeding our 2010 Campaign Goal of $110,000 during this year’s campaign (Sept. 28 – Oct. 31, 2009) is critical to the success of our local United Way. Last year, our annual full-time employee donation averaged approximately $46 per employee or $1.92 per check for 24 paychecks. Imagine what would happen if each of us gave just a little bit more.

One of the positive effects of our unrestricted donations to the United Way is that each dollar we donate raises an impressive $2.41 in matching funds. Please consider making a donation at http://www.mdc.edu/UnitedWay.

As always, members of the 2010 United Way Campaign Team for your campus or division will update you about special campaign events. You will find a complete list of United Way Lead Ambassadors at the end of this message. If you have a great idea for a special event, or would like to donate your time, please feel free to contact your Lead Ambassador.

Once again, let’s all show our community that we know how to “Live United” through our generous support of this year’s campaign.

Thank you.

Eduardo
