Students prepare for All-Nighter for Haiti fundraiser

Last year, more than 300 MDC students led a hugely successful fundraising effort to help fight hunger and poverty in Haiti. This year, student leaders have planned an even larger campaign for the All-Nighter for Haiti 2010, beginning at 7 p.m. tonight until 7 a.m. tomorrow at Kendall Campus.

The students raised more than $23,000 in 2009 that included a combination of donations, as well as proceeds from food sales during the event. This year, the students hope to raise $40,000, which will go toward further construction of sustainable tilapia farms in Haiti.

Sponsored by Students Aiding International Development (SAID), MDC's Center for Community Involvement and Food For the Poor, the All-Nighter for Haiti will usher in the start of World Food Day, a global campaign to heighten public awareness of the world’s hunger problem and strengthen international solidarity in the struggle against malnutrition and poverty, as well as draw attention to achievements in food and agricultural development.

I would like to commend our students, faculty and staff who are taking part in this fundraiser and encourage everyone who has the means to contribute to the campaign either at tonight's event or online at www.allnighter.org.

Thank you for your support.

Eduardo
