MDC Receives Council for Higher Education Accreditation's CHEA Award for Learning Outcomes

I am pleased to announce that Miami Dade College has once again been recognized for our excellent educational programming. The College is one of only four institutions nationwide to receive the Council for Higher Education Accreditation's prestigious 2011 CHEA Award for Outstanding Institutional Practice in Student Learning Outcomes.

The CHEA Award was established in 2005 to recognize institutions that have been exceptional in developing and applying evidence of student learning outcomes to improve higher education quality and accountability. A committee selected from higher education institutions, accrediting organizations and the public judged the winners on the basis of four award criteria: articulation and evidence of outcomes; success with regard to outcomes; information to the public about outcomes and use of outcomes for educational improvement.

Nearly six years ago, Miami Dade College broke new ground in higher education by establishing our 10 overarching student Learning Outcomes and innovative assessments. These outcomes are now celebrated as a model of success and have garnered not only tremendous recognition from national and higher education media, but also numerous accolades, including the CollegeKeys Compact 2010 Innovation Award and the 2008 Exemplary Award for Improving General Education from the Association for General and Liberal Studies.

I would like to thank you for your ongoing support of the Learning Outcomes and the hard work that you do every day to prepare our graduates to be lifelong learners and responsible global citizens. The recent recognition from CHEA is further proof that MDC continues to lead the way in student success, accomplishing our mission to change lives through the opportunity of education.

Thank you.

Eduardo
