Message From the President

As I reflect on all that we have accomplished at MDC this year, I am hard-pressed to summarize our vast achievements in a sentence or two. I am continuously impressed by the creativity and resourcefulness with which we fulfill our mission and by how much we’ve evolved in recent years.
This time of year opens up a big box of memories for me, taking me back to a time when MDC spanned one campus and offered a handful of classes to a small number of students. Looking back at our modest beginnings, it is remarkable to see MDC today as the largest institution of higher education in the nation. This feat is not surprising considering the wealth of talent among us. It serves as a reminder that we are capable of surmounting whatever challenges come our way, and with hard work and determination, we truly can accomplish anything.
I am certainly aware of the good work that everyone here does every day, and how all of you have taken on extra tasks to make up for budget shortcomings. I am not sure how often you receive direct thanks from the students whose dreams you help achieve, but I see the fruit of your labor every day. It may sound cliché, but we really do open doors, change lives, and, in some cases, give second chances.
This spirit of giving is what the holidays are all about. At MDC, we exemplify this spirit year-round. For all that we have become and all that you do, I thank you.
Here’s to all that we will achieve in 2012 and beyond. Best wishes to you and your loved ones this holiday season.
