Celebrating the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'" This question is central to Miami Dade College's mission as we work daily toward improving the lives of individuals in our community through higher education; and becomes even more significant as we reflect on how we will celebrate Dr. King's birthday and legacy on Monday, Jan. 17.

For those looking for additional ways to give back to the community, the College's Center for Community Involvement is once again partnering with local agencies to offer students, faculty and staff the chance to take part in the MLK Day of Service on Jan. 17, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers are needed for projects in conjunction with Roots in the City and Urban Paradise Guild. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Alison Brooks at alison.brooks@mdc.edu

However you choose to celebrate the holiday weekend, I hope you will take some time to reflect on the importance of civic engagement and to pay homage to a man who inspired so many with his vision for greater equality and ability to bring people together to create positive social change.

Thank you for all that you do for our community.

Eduardo
