MDC Alerts
If there is an emergency that threatens life safety on a campus, or has the potential to, or severely impacts normal College operations, College officials have several ways to warn the campus communities. All of these make up an overall system we call MDC Alerts.
While on campus, the siren and public address system may be used to give safety instructions.
Other sources of information may be obtained from the local radio and TV media, or by calling the student or employee hotlines.
- Student Hotline: (305) 237-7500
- Employee Hotline: (305) 237-7505
To receive text messaging, e-mails, or both, that are tailored to a particular campus location, sign up for MDC Alerts.
All current students and employees are required to participate, but family and friends may also subscribe.
By registering your cell phone number with the college, you will receive emergency text messages alerting you of a current or imminent threat. Your cell phone must have text messaging capabilities. Miami Dade College will use this information for emergency communication purposes only.
Select a unique ring tone on your cell phone for MDC Alerts messages; which will always be sent from either 69310 or 21953.
This SMS technology has proven to be reliable during emergencies when phone networks can become overloaded. If there is an emergency situation, the College can notify large numbers of people regardless of where they are located.
- Students receive alerts only between the first and last day they are registered for Miami Dade College classes.
- Employees receive alerts only while they are employed by the college.
Students and employees are able update their emergency notification information for MDC Alerts at any time by going to www.mdc.edu/alerts and clicking on the appropriate link at the top of the page.
Since phone providers and numbers change, it is important to keep this information up-to-date. Students and employees need their Miami Dade College user name and password to access these links.
MDC Alerts will be activated if life safety or campus operations are impacted. Also, the College periodically sends messages to test the system. It's easy to subscribe or update, just go to www.mdc.edu/alerts.
