Alex's Lemonade Club at SAS Kendall Performs Another Project for Children with Cancer

Group of SAS Students with quilts

Miami, December 11, 2017 - It's almost halfway through the school year and Alex's Lemonade Club at School for Advanced Studies is helping raise awareness of childhood cancer. Other than hosting the monthly lemonade stand, the club's officers and members have encouraged other activities such as chemo care kits, Christmas cards, and knotted quilts. Members stuffed yellow bags with stuffed animals, lip balm, coloring books, and lemon drops to give support and encourage strength to children with cancer. There is a young boy who sadly contracted cancer; he doesn't know whether he'll make it to Christmas, so he wanted to celebrate the holidays early. Members of the club decorated Christmas cards full of love and wishes for the young boy. He has received them with a big smile and is grateful for everyone. Since he has received so many, he offered to send them to military veterans and other struggling individuals. Just a few weeks ago, members of Alex's Lemonade Club stayed at school after college classes and made knotted quilts for children going through chemotherapy, since they get cold during their treatments. Knotted with love, the blankets will keep them warm. Scholars at School for Advanced Studies have put forth effort aside from their demanding studies and crafted gift bags, letters, and blankets to support children with cancer and raise awareness of the illness.
