Debora Gonzalez is a 2016 Bezos Scholar

Debora Gonzalez

Miami, May 18, 2016 - Debora Gonzalez, a junior at School for Advanced Studies, has been selected as one of only twelve high school students in the United States to be a 2016 Bezos Scholar. Her AP English teacher at SAS, Jeff Dearing, will accompany her on an all expense paid trip to Aspen, Colorado for a week this summer for the Aspen Ideas Festival. This will be followed up by a year long commitment to follow through on what is learned at the Aspen Institute.

After attending the Festival, the scholars return home to organize their own community change programs, known as Local Ideas Festivals. Bezos Scholars is sponsored by a Miamian Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, and a Miami Herald Silver Knight winner who seeks to foster exceptional community service projects by high school students all across the country.  Debora is already working on such a project.
