Miami, June 6, 2012 - SAS Student Jonathan Zalkin Wins Congressional Art Competition

School for Advanced Studies student Jonathan Zalkin has been named as the winner of the 2012 Congressional Art Competition for Florida's 25th Congressional district represented by David Rivera.
Every year, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in each congressional district.
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nation-wide competition.
Jonathan's painting entitled "The Nurse and the Sailor" will be displayed in the Capitol building in Washington D.C. for the next eleven months. Congressman Rivera was very impressed by Jonathan's artistic talent and said he was proud to have this painting represent the 25th Congressional District of Florida.
