National Merit Scholar at School for Advanced Studies Kendall Campus
Miami, February 11, 2013 - School for Advanced Studies (SAS) Kendall Campus student Silvia Marmol-Lugo has been named as a 2013 National Merit Scholar by the National Merit Scholarship Recognition Program.
Each year over 1.5 million students compete in the National Merit Scholarship Recognition Program. Only 15,000 high school seniors from all across the United States are selected as Scholars. National Merit Scholars are chosen by virtue of their academic record, information about the school's curricula and grading system, two sets of test scores (PSAT and SAT), the high school official's written recommendation, information about the student's activities and leadership, and the Finalist's own essay. Silvia excelled in all of these areas and this led to her recognition for this very special award.
Silvia will benefit from being named as a National Merit Scholar in two important ways. The very best universities in the United States seek out National Merit Scholars for admission to their schools and over half of the National Merit Scholars each year are awarded $2,500 in scholarship money to attend the university of their choice in the fall.
