SAS April, 2017 Intern of the Month Andres Gutierrez

Andres Guiterrez with MDC West Staff

Miami, April 1, 2017 - SAS April, 2017 Intern of the Month Andres Gutierrez has been working with the Network and Media Services Department at Miami Dade College since September, 2016. He has been fully integrated into the team of IT personnel. His mentor, Pedro Santos, has allowed Andres to co-develop an internal  MDC website and a SACS prospectus web base solution for MDC West Campus. After gaining the confidence of everyone in the department, Andres took on a project of his own and has been putting together an innovative service for Miami Dade College West Campus President Roger Ramsammy. Andres has devoted hundreds of hours after school at MDC West and at his home to make his projects for MDC West Campus possible.

Andres is currently working on a way to integrate “Amazon Echo Alexa”  into a new campus information center.  Once it is up and running it will provide automated directions, hours, and information on campus events to interested parties who visit the campus.  Andres is doing all of the coding for this project.  After a trial period, the MDC West Campus President may decide to offer Andres’s programming and accompanying technology to other sites of Miami Dade College. Pedro Santos, who mentors Andres on a daily basis, speaks very highly of Andres and his IT skills. He is gaining invaluable experience through this internship.
