SAS March Interns of the Month Gabe Toja and Katherine Almendarez

Students part of the Americans for Immigrant Justice pose for a picture

Miami, March 6, 2017 - SAS Wolfson juniors Gabe Toja and Katherine Almendarez are engaged in a very meaningful internship at the Americans for Immigration Justice (AI Justice) office located on Biscayne Boulevard. Gabe and Katherine spend a few hours there every weekday after their regular school day ends.

They are pictured in the attached photo with their mentor Marina Rakopyan who assigns them to work directly with immigration lawyers and children who have turned to the organization for assistance. Both Gabe and Katherine have a deep commitment to this cause as a result of their own personal experience of immigration to America some years ago.

Marina states that Gabe and Katherine have been volunteering with Americans for Immigrant Justice since December 2016.  Their work and dedication has allowed the organization to increase capacity and more effectively do the work that they do to serve the community.  "Gabe and Katherine's commitment to the community has been an inspiration to the AI Justice Staff."  Gabriel and Katherine are a joy to see in the office everyday and AI Justice is very grateful for their continued support.
