SAS 2018 Silver Knight Nominee Victoria Rodriguez Leads Her SAS Classmates in a Sandy Hook Rememberance

Student observe a Sandy Hook Remembrance Vigil

Miami, December 15, 2017 - Victoria Rodriguez, a senior at School for Advanced Studies (SAS), led her classmates in a "Moment of Silence" on the fifth anniversary of the day when 22 children were murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Conneticut. Victoria was motivated by the issue of teen alienation and gun violence that resulted in the tragedy at Sandy Hook five years ago this week (December 14, 2012). She started a project at SAS called "Start with Hello" to make sure her classmates did not feel that kind of isolation. SAS has now nominated Rodriguez for the Miami Herald's Silver Knight Award in Art partly because of that initiative.
