SAS Homestead Students Win Essay Contest for Grade 11 and Grade 12


Miami, November 17, 2015 - SAS Homestead students Byron Rocha (Grade 12) and Ashley Gray (Grade 11) were named as the winners of the essay contest for the Homestead Miami Speedway. The South Dade News Leader selected one winner for each grade level and SAS Homestead had the eleventh and twelfth grade winners and they each will receive 2 weekend passes for the Ford Championship Weekend NASCAR races November 20-22, 2015 at Homestead Miami Speedway.

Byron and Ashley are seen holding their weekend passes in the photo. Those tickets are valued at hundreds of dollars for each student.

Advanced Placement English teacher Adrienne Pedroso encouraged the students to write essays on the topic " What position on a NASCAR racing team would they like to hold (team owner, driver, mechanic, etc.) Ms. Pedroso will receive free tickets for Saturday's race. Byron and Ashley will be taken to a green room at the racetrack and then will stand on stage in front of thousands of people before Saturday's race.
