SAS Students Win Ford Salute to Education Scholarship

Miami, April 5, 2013 - Three School for Advanced Studies (SAS) students have been awarded the 2013 Ford Salute to Education Scholarships. Bethany Claunch of SAS Homestead was recognized in the "Leadership and Service" category. Scott Matsumoto of SAS Kendall won in the "Math and Computer Science" category while David Pena who is also from SAS Kendall received his scholarship in the "Natural Science" group.

The Ford Salute to Education program offers a one time grant of $1500 and a laptop computer to 50 students in Miami-Dade County and 50 students in Broward County in six different categories. The program is funded by the Miami-Dade and Broward County Ford and Lincoln dealers.

Scholarship applicants must maintain a 3.0 weighted GPA. The foundation uses criteria such as financial need, community involvement, academic achievment, demonstrated leadership, quality of character, meaningful objectives achieved, and obstacles overcome to judge who should be selected to receive this award.
