School Board Member Dr. Larry Feldman Visits SAS

Miami, June 6, 2013 - SAS Principal Dr. Omar Monteagudo and Dr. Jeanne Jacobs, President of Miami Dade College Homestead Campus, welcomed School Board Member Dr. Larry Feldman to their campus on Monday, May 20, 2013. School for Advanced Studies (SAS) is celebrating a 25 year partnership this year between Miami Dade College and the Miami-Dade County Public Schools and SAS was recently named by Newsweek Magazine as the "6th Best High School in America" in their 2013 rankings. As a result, it was a great time to invite Dr. Feldman to visit the school.

Dr. Feldman visited SAS classes and answered questions from the students at this highly rated high school of excellence. He also had his own questions for the SAS students. Dr. Feldman wanted to know what motivates a high school student to take on the challenge of SAS. SAS students are able to finish their last two years of high school while they simultaneously complete their first two years of college (all for free). The school is known for academic excellence and a rigorous curriculum that requires a lot of hard work and dedication. The school attracts academically talented students who are not intimidated by such a challenge.

Ninety percent of the SAS Class of 2013 received an Associate in Arts degree from Miami Dade College a month before their high school graduation and most of the graduating class was accepted at top tier universities all around the United States. Visit the SAS website at to learn more about application meetings that will be held in the fall for the SAS Class of 2016 (current 10th graders).
