CarterI’ll admit, I was convinced I had made a terrible mistake the moment I signed my name on the agreement form. The School for Advanced Studies seemed too good to be true, and the stories I heard from administrators and students at my old school were in no way comforting. I was told to expect failure and to give up any hope of having fun. But looking back on it now, I know that they were wrong in every way imaginable, because coming to the School for Advanced Studies was, without a doubt, the best decision I have ever made.

I am convinced I could not have become the student I am now without the help of SAS. Since the first day of class, I was thrown into an intensive, enriching environment where the teachers dedicated themselves to helping us succeed in every way imaginable and the students become a family all on their own. Rather than drown us in work and wreck our GPA’s, the School for Advanced Studies helped each and every one of us hone our passions and strengthen our academic pursuits. The Class of 2016 stepped into the halls of Miami-Dade College confused about the future, but determined to make the best of the next two years. This coming June, we will all be leaving as brilliant young men and women dedicated to pursuing our dreams and not letting anything get in our way. We will be leaving to attend universities in all corners of the United States, and I have no doubt that we will all become successful in our own ways.

My time at the School for Advanced Studies is something I will never forget. The faces I see every day have truly become family, and the teachers I have met along the way have been some of the most influential, amusing, and intelligent individuals I have ever met. I leave for Boston in the fall ready to take on the world, because SAS, more than anything, taught me that through hard work and dedication, we can all reach for the stars.
