Strategic Plan
Mission: The Miami Dade College School of Science is committed to providing our diverse student population with high quality and innovative learning experiences that prepare them to question, investigate, and formulate conclusions about the natural world.
- Improve student learning and completion rates by:
- Defining and creating standardized (college-wide) tracks for every STEM major and incorporate School of Science-specific advisement
- Revising and/or creating innovative curriculum
- Broaden participation of students and faculty from underrepresented populations in STEM fields by:
- Investigating the potential of a Charter School for STEM
- Creating a (Summer) Science Institute
- Identifying source funding and professional development to recruit, retain, and promote STEM faculty
- Engage community stakeholders to promote the science academic pathways from pre-K through college by:
- Intensifying efforts to attract industries to partner MDC
- Developing partnerships with science professors and other community stakeholders
- Maximize resource development efforts to provide state-of-the art learning environments for our students by:
- Incorporating the most relevant available technology as per curricular revisions, innovations, and/or inventory assessment
- Pursuing new funding streams consistent with the mission of the School of Science and in alignment with MDC’s overarching strategic goals
- Adopt and promote practices for responsible use of natural resources by:
- Embedding concepts of natural resource conservation across science curriculum
- School of Science and administrators committing to lead by example
