About Us

At Miami Dade College, we believe in giving back to the community. This is made possible through initiatives such as the Small Business Program which helps businesses gain a competitive edge through the workshops/seminars provided.

Personnel

Dr. Ana M. Cruz, DBA, CPA, Professor and Chairperson, School of Business, Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus.  Dr. Cruz is responsible for crafting the Small Business Education Program in 2007. Throughout the years she has been involved in the development and expansion of the Program. Her leadership and commitment have contributed to its success and have warranted the continued financial support of Citi Foundation.

Prior to joining Miami Dade College, Dr. Cruz worked in several levels of management in the private industry and the Internal Revenue Service where she was Field Auditor.  Among her diplomas and certifications:  A.A. Degree from Miami Dade College,  B.S. from Florida International University, a Master's in Business Administration from St. Thomas Villanova University, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University, in addition she is a Certified Public Accountant.  She is active in various important committees, such as:  the Beacon Council's Finance and Banking Sub-committee, and the South Florida Regional Council of the Hispanic Business Initiative Fund of Florida, South Florida. 

Josie Lorenzo has served as Manager, Small Business Education Program since 2010.
A 25-year veteran from the corporate sector, her professional experience spans across several areas to include, sales, marketing, development, corporate event planning, and community relations, gained while holding various management positions at Eastern Air Lines, United Airlines, and American Airlines until 2001.  Her knowledge of the local community has been enhanced by serving on numerous non-profit boards during that period.

Ms. Lorenzo has done consulting work for several organizations including: The Donors Forum, English + One committee (GMCC), One Community One Goal (MDCPS), the International Ballet Festival of Miami, Miami Book Fair International, and the School of Business at Miami Dade College.  Ms. Lorenzo lived in Sevilla (Spain) where she attended the Facultad de Filosofia y Letras, and obtained a B.A. Degree from Florida International University, majoring in Modern Languages.

Anna Frachou, MBA obtained a Master’s degree in International Business Administration from IE Business School in Madrid (Spain) and another Master’s degree from Tulane University’s Roger Thayer Stone Center for Latin American Studies in New Orleans, LA.

Aside from working as the Small Business Administration Program Manager at Miami Dade College, Ms. Frachou is the Associate Director of International Business Development of IE Business School. In this role, she is responsible for developing new business for IE across the Southeast and Caribbean Region. Prior to joining IE, Ms. Frachou held various leadership positions in the private and public sector. She joins us with 12 years of marketing, sales, and management experience. This experience also includes consulting for local and national organizations such as The Lab Miami, Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, and The Center for Leadership Innovation.

The recognition and awards received for her leadership has provided her the opportunity to serve on various boards and coalitions. She currently is a member of the Jr. League of Miami, and is passionate about engaging communities through business and leadership development.
