At Miami Dade College, we believe in giving back to the community. This is made possible through initiatives such as the Small Business Program which helps businesses gain a competitive edge through the workshops/seminars provided.
Dr. Ana M. Cruz, DBA, CPA, Professor and Chairperson, School of Business, Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus. Dr. Cruz is responsible for crafting the Small Business Education Program in 2007. Throughout the years she has been involved in the development and expansion of the Program. Her leadership and commitment have contributed to its success, and have warranted the continued financial support of Citi Foundation.
Prior to joining Miami Dade College, Dr. Cruz worked in several levels of management in private industry and the Internal Revenue Service where she did field auditing. Among her diplomas and certifications: an A.A. Degree from Miami Dade College, a B.S. from Florida International University, a Master's in Business Administration from St. Thomas Villanova University, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University, in addition she is a Certified Public Accountant.
Josie Lorenzo has been involved in the Small Business Education Program for the past four years. A 25-year veteran in the corporate sector, Ms. Lorenzo’s management experience has ranged from sales and marketing to community relations for three major airlines. Her knowledge of the local community is enhanced by her past participation on numerous non-profit boards. For the past ten years, she has done consulting work for several organizations including: The Donors Forum, MDCPS One Community One Goal, the International Ballet Festival of Miami, Miami Book Fair International, and the School of Business at Miami Dade College.
Ms. Lorenzo lived in Sevilla (Spain) where she attended the Facultad de Filosofia y Letras, and obtained a B.A. Degree from Florida International University, majoring in Modern Languages.
George Ray III, MBA joined the Small Business Education Program in 2011 as the manager of the English program. Mr. Ray’s career in public service and community relations has placed him at the forefront of progressive young professionals across the nation. He was recognized as a Regional Finalist for the White House Fellows Program for 2011-2012. Also, he was just appointed as a Board Member by the Miami Dade County Board of County Commissioners to the Miami Dade Economic Advisory Trust in 2012.
George is the CEO/ President of G. Ray & Associates, LLC , a full scale consulting firm, servicing the needs of clients in education, government and legal affairs. Currently, he lectures at Miami Dade College School of Business as an Adjunct Professor. He is also an academic member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiner. George earned his B.A Degree from Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama in Public Administration and a Master in Business Administration. He is a recent 2012 graduate of the U.S. Congressional Black Caucus Political Advocacy Leadership Boot Camp and is a certified professional campaign strategist.
