At Miami Dade College, we believe in giving back to the community. This is made possible through initiatives such as the Small Business Program which helps businesses gain a competitive edge through the workshops/seminars provided.
Dr. Ana M. Cruz, DBA, CPA, Professor and Chairperson, School of Business, Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus. Dr. Cruz is responsible for crafting the Small Business Education Program in 2007. Throughout the years she has been involved in the development and expansion of the Program. Her leadership and commitment have contributed to its success, and have warranted the continued financial support of Citi Foundation.
Prior to joining Miami Dade College, Dr. Cruz worked in several levels of management in private industry and the Internal Revenue Service where she did field auditing. Among her diplomas and certifications: an A.A. Degree from Miami Dade College, a B.S. from Florida International University, a Masters in Business Administration from St. Thomas Villanova University, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University, in addition she is a Certified Public Accountant.
Josie Lorenzo has been involved in the Small Business Education Program for the past five years. A 25-year veteran in the corporate sector, Ms. Lorenzo’s management experience has ranged from sales and marketing, to community relations for three major airlines. Her knowledge of the local community has been enhanced by her past participation on numerous non-profit boards. For the past ten years, Ms. Lorenzo has been consulting for several organizations including: The Donors Forum, MDCPS One Community One Goal, the International Ballet Festival of Miami, Miami Book Fair International, and the School of Business at Miami Dade College.
Ms. Lorenzo lived in Sevilla (Spain) where she attended the Facultad de Filosofia y Letras, and obtained a B.A. Degree from Florida International University, majoring in Modern Languages.
Steve Colyer, MBA, holds a Masters in Business from the University of South Carolina and a Certificate in International Business from Seton Hall University (NJ), and has 25 years of international sales, marketing and management experience, 17 in information technology and eight in agri-business.
Steve has worked in both multinational and small business environments. He has also served a full-time faculty member within the School of Business at the Miami Dade College (MDC) North Campus, (2010 – 2013) and has worked with non-profits winning more than a half million dollars in grants.
Starting his career in sales with computer provider NCR Corporation, he joined AT&T’s marketing organization. Working with AT&T and its spin-offs, Lucent Technologies and Avaya Communications, he served as Caribbean/Latin America Region Marketing Director for Lucent Technologies Business Communication Systems and Avaya Communications.
