Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) measures basic essential skills in the academic content area of reading, mathematics, science and English and language usage. The test is intended for use primarily with adult nursing program applicants. The objectives assessed on the TEAS exam are those which nurse educators deemed most appropriate and relevant to measure entry level skills and abilities of nursing program applicants.
Beginning May 2, 2010, Nursing applicants will be required to take the TEAS, Version 5. The exam measures basic essential skills in the academic content areas of reading, mathematics, science and English and language usage. The test is a four option multiple choice examination with a 170 total questions and a time limit of 209 minutes. Calculators may not be used.
Reading: 58 minutes with 48 questions
Mathematics: 51 minutes with 34 questions
Science: 66 minutes with 54 questions
English and language usage: 34 minutes with 34 questions

The following policies apply to all examinees planning to take or present the TEAS exam at Miami Dade College: Miami Dade College does not accept TEAS test scores from other institutions. Calculators are not allowed. Please bring your own pencils. Scratch paper will be provided by the testing center. Schedule 4 hours to complete the exam.

Retest Procedure:
The TEAS may be taken twice a year and retakes (2nd time) may be taken after 30 days.
Examinees may take the exam twice within a 12 month period with a mandatory waiting period of 30 days between attempts. Scores will not be valid for test takers who attempt to test prior to the 30 day waiting period and you will have forfeited your second attempt.
