Project Hope, a student-run organization that assists the financial needs of those battling cancer, will be hosting a benefit concert for a former high school educator, Gene Ferreiro, who was diagnosed with cancer in June 2009.
The concert will be held Dec. 9 at the Fred Shaw Plaza at the Miami Dade College Kendall Campus, 11011 SW 104 St. from 5 - 9 p.m.
Students interested in volunteering with Project Hope will receive community service hours for their involvement.
The concert will feature artists performing from genres such as hip-hop and pop, along with DJ’s, dancers and singers.
Admission is $3 and there will be vendors with food and other items for sale. All proceeds will go to Ferreiro’s family.
Ferreriro’s cancer has progressed to stage 4 cancer and has spread to his brain, liver, and hip bone.
This is the second year Project Hope has organized a concert for a cancer patient. The group raised $7,000 last year.
