Grand Chinese Performing Arts Shows Free of Cost to the Community
China’s Nanchang University Performing Troupe (April 11, 2013)
Nanchang University Performing Troupe is one of the top college performing troupes from central China. Composed of student performers from dance, music, drama, performing arts and other disciplines, the troupe has been performing throughout Jiangxi Province and central China over a decade. The troupe offers a variety of programs including Chinese folk dances and songs, instrumental performances, Chinese local drama, and Chinese martial arts acts. The troupe has regularly appeared at major arts and cultural festivals in Jiangxi Province and central China, and its lead performers hold distinguished awards from China’s regional and national competitions. Through an invitation from the CI at Miami Dade College, the Nanchang University Performing Troupe performed for the college’s eclectic audiences on April 11, 2013.
“Cultures of China Festival of Spring” Grand Show in Miami (February 15, 2013)
Held at the Guzman Center for the Performing Arts and led by the world-renowned Zhanyou Art Troupe, the February concert featured a world class display of authentic Chinese folk dance, operatic singing, live music and comedy. The CI at Miami Dade College co-hosted a performance of the troupe and provided the event with much-needed logistical and promotional support, including a welcoming reception at MDC’s Wolfson Campus for a Chinese art delegation. The event took place on February 15, 2013.
China’s Nanjing University Traditional Chinese Orchestra (Feb 6-7, 2012)
Founded in 1996, Nanjing University Traditional Chinese Orchestra is widely considered as one of China’s finest college orchestras. It is composed of undergraduates and graduate students from various academic disciplines, such as humanities, social sciences, business, law, natural sciences, engineering and medical science. As a student orchestra, Nanjing University Traditional Chinese Orchestra mainly gives performances in the form of instrumental ensemble, unison, small ensemble and solo. Its specialty is to capture through sound the grace and beauty of the picturesque southern Jiangsu Province in southern China. The orchestra has won many awards, including first-place prizes in China’s National University Students Art Competitions and been invited to perform in the USA, the UK, Germany, Russia, Canada, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. The CI and the Office of International Education at Miami Dade College jointly hosted the Orchestra at three of its Student Life Departments for performances in February 6-7 of 2012.
China’s Xuzhou Normal University Performing Troupe (November 18-20, 2011)
Xuzhou Normal University Performing Troupe provides spectacular Chinese performing arts entertainment programs which feature live music, Chinese folk dances, and martial arts with awarding winning faculty and students from the university. The troupe has had performing tours in many cities and universities throughout China, and received various awards at China’s national performing arts competitions. The first visit by Xuzhou Normal University Performing Troupe to Miami strengthened the educational exchanges and cultural ties between this Chinese university, Miami Dade College and the local community. The troupe’s visit to Miami took place from November 18–20 of 2011.
