OIE Mission Statement
The mission of the Miami Dade College Office of International Education (OIE) is to actively promote international and intercultural understanding and to enrich the academic and cultural environment of Miami Dade College by creating programs to sustain the exchange of people and ideas. OIE brings a World of Learning to MDC as well as the local and global community. OIE believes “Opportunity Changes Everything.”
OIE Vision Statement
The Miami Dade College community (students, faculty and staff) is a diverse community of learners who have a broad world view, have an understanding and appreciation of other cultures, and actively practice global citizenship, as result of the educational experiences offered by the Office of International Education.
Welcome to the Office of International Education (OIE) at Miami Dade College.
The Office of International Education supports the College’s goal to ensure that our students graduate prepared to be globally engaged citizens with international experience and global perspective. OIE provides international and multicultural learning experiences to students, faculty and the community, which support the College Strategic Plan.
OIE provides international programs through the following units:
Study Abroad - Administers faulty-led, Honors College, and College Consortium for International Studies study abroad programs in more than 30 countries.
Community College Initiative Program (CCIP) - The Community College Consortium is an informal association of some of the largest community college systems located in Virginia, Arizona, California and Florida. The principal focus of the institutional partners are to utilize their combined knowledge base to support nations across the globe realize the importance of community colleges as a prime motivator and initiator of higher education.
Confucius Institute - Promotes knowledge of Mandarin language and Chinese culture, particularly in the context of understanding modern China through credit courses, cultural programs, and study abroad programs at sister university Xuzhou Normal University in China.
Center for Latin American and Caribbean Initiatives - Promotes the interdisciplinary study of politics, governments, history, economics, and culture of Latin America and the Caribbean through panels, workshops, cultural events, and televised discussions of current events. MDC students gain an understanding of issues that prepares them to participate in the global marketplace and serve as responsible citizens and leaders of an increasingly globalized society.
International Partnerships – Promotes international education and training programs for public, private and governmental sectors at the local, national, and international level. Develops MOUs and leads international student recruitment programs.
Diplomat in Residence (DIR)
Each year, the U.S. Department of State assigns Senior Foreign Service Officers to the position of Diplomat in Residence (DIR) at certain colleges and universities throughout the United States. The DIR program is central to the effort to recruit for the Foreign Service, Civil Service and Student Programs the best and brightest to represent America's rich diversity to the world.
