The Salzburg Seminar, established in 1947, is an international, nonpartisan, educational
organization dedicated to the recognition and development of tomorrow’s leaders. An
American institution dealing with international issues, the Seminar brings together
individuals from all parts of the world to its historic facilities in Salzburg, Austria, to
explore social, political, and cultural issues of global significance through intense
dialogue and the open exchange of ideas.
Each year 40 students from The Honors College of Miami Dade College, along with the
Presidents of the campuses’ Student Government Associations, participate in the
Salzburg Seminar, which also includes a two-day cultural visit to Vienna. Student
participants represent all campuses, and are selected through a college-wide competition.
This is a non-credit program, which offers students the opportunity to study with
international scholars and leaders and to engage in intensive interactions with their peers
in a multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural environment.
The days are structured to include morning lectures, mid-morning discussions, and
afternoon group work on an assigned project. At the conclusion of the weeklong
seminar, all participants are required to make presentations on projects developed
throughout the week focusing on the seminar’s theme for the week (i.e. Global
Citizenship).
Lodging and facilities are on-site and meals are provided. The Seminar has up-to-date
computer centers, a historic library, a lecture hall and seminar rooms located in the
Schloss Leopoldskron, a 16th Century baroque castle.
