Discussion of Further Integration of Ethics

Professors McPhee and Dundorf have been exploring a learning community  at North Campus which would include the Critical Thinking/Ethics course (PHI 2604).   They are also suggest increasing the course competencies to include more ethics and critical thinking outcomes.

The M-DCC Honors College has proposed adoption of an ethics thread which would give students the opportunity to study ethics as part of the Honor's Curriculum.

 Suggestions for future Institute Activities

1. A Philosophers' Panel to debate known ethical topics from various philosophical frameworks. The debate could be held on all campuses and involve students and faculty. The panel would include cultural perspectives as they relate to ethical decision making.

2. Developing a team approach to discussion. Discipline experts and philosophers on the same panel.   The discipline experts would bring the content the philosophers the ethical/critical thinking component to the discussion.

Institute Brochure

The Institute brochure developed for the FIPSE presentation was distributed. Professor McPhee pointed out that only the Web site mission was on the brochure. The Institute's mission statement as developed by the Advisory Committee will be added to the new publication and web site.
