The
M.L.K. Project
sponsored by Miami-Dade Community College Medical Center Campus’s Support
Staff Council, School of Nursing and the CHESP Grant is designed to strengthen
one component of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The goal of this
project is to provide community school-aged children with safety, health
awareness, and health career options information. In addition, Service-Learning
presentations will be conducted throughout the academic year. Donated
school supplies containing materials such as writing paper, pencils, crayons,
protractors, erasers, rulers, pencil sharpeners and safety scissors are provided
to students participating in this effort. Classroom teachers will be furnished a
treasure box of school supplies to be used throughout the year. A health &
safety packet will be provided to each student via the Service-Learning
component of this project. Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School with over 900
students will be the 1st school to benefit from this joint venture during
the Fall semester 2002.
