Associate in Science Degree Programs

School of Nursing and Midwifery

Nursing, Generic. Designed for students with no previous nursing background. Full-time program in five semesters. Part-time program in nine semesters.

Nursing, Bridge . Designed for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and other licensed or certified health care professionals to become RNs. One-year full-time or a two-year part-time program.

Nursing, Accelerated. A one-year, three-semester comprehensive nursing program designed for individuals holding baccalaureate or higher degrees from accredited institutions.

Midwifery. Direct entry opportunity for individuals to become licensed midwives, independently providing family-centered prenatal and postpartum care as well as labor and delivery services according to state law.

School of Allied Health Technologies

Dental Hygiene. Prepares graduates to become practicing members of a dental health team dedicated to helping individuals maintain oral health and prevent dental diseases.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Jointly sponsored by Miami-Dade Community College and Jackson Memorial Hospital. Prepares graduates to use sonography to image organs, muscles, masses, fluid accumulations and the unborn fetus.

Emergency Medical Services. Designed for certified paramedics with experience. Focuses on the management and coordination of an Emergency Medical Services system.

Health Information Management. Prepares graduates to maintain medical records and provide data for health information needs in business, government, and the health care industry.

Medical Laboratory Technology. Designed to give graduates the knowledge and technical skills needed to work in virtually any area of a laboratory. Includes courses in theory, procedures, and instrumentation.

Opticianry. Prepares graduates to work for an optician, optometrist, ophthalmologist or to manage an optical office; to fit glasses and contact lenses, make optical office; to fit glasses and contact lenses, make glasses, and/or perform preliminary tests and procedures as eye technicians.

Physical Therapist Assistant. Prepares graduates to work under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist in the rehabilitative care of individuals disabled by injury or disease.

Physician Assistant. Prepares graduates for employment under the supervision of a licensed physician. Instruction in aspects of medical theory, instrumentation, diagnosis and treatment, including prescribing and administration of drugs.

Radiation Therapy Technology. Jointly sponsored by Miami-Dade Community College and Jackson Memorial Hospital. Prepares the student to be a key member of the professional team using radiation to treat cancer.

Radiography. Prepares graduates for a career in diagnostic imaging through the application of x-radiation to patients. Includes instruction on how to position patients and adjust the exposure factors to produce useful radiographs.

Respiratory Care Therapist. Prepares graduates to work under medical supervision, providing treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation and care for patients with pulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities.

Clinics

The Medical Center Campus operates two on-campus clinics where students in the
Dental Hygiene and Vision Care Technology/Opticianry programs receive most of their clinical experiences. The Dental Hygiene clinic has 49 of the most modern dental hygiene chairs available, located in seven suites with supporting laboratory, specialty and office rooms.

The clinic for the Vision Care Technology/Opticianry program boasts four examination rooms with ancillary patient rooms and an ophthalmic laboratory. Both of the clinics are open by appointment to the community at large.
