What is the Associate
Degree Nursing Program?

Approved by the Florida State Board of Nursing and accredited
by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC,
61 Broadway, NY, NY 10006, 212-363-5555), the Associate Degree
Nursing Program at Miami Dade College is a course of study
that prepares graduates to become licensed as registered
nurses (RN). Four different options are available:

the Generic
Option at Medical Center Campus (Full and Part–time)
-
the Generic
Option at Homestead Campus, including on-site sections at
Baptist Hospital
-
the Bridge
Option designed for LPN’s and similarly qualified health care
workers (Full and and Part-time), and
-
the
Accelerated Option (for students who currently hold a
baccalaureate degree in any field).
What Will I Learn?

Students gain knowledge
and skills needed for registered nurse practice in a variety
of settings. Supervised clinical assignments in obstetric,
pediatric, medical/surgical, geriatric, psychiatric and
community health settings provide patient care experiences and
offer students the opportunity to interact with individuals in
other health related professions.
RN’s are vital members of the health care team who assess,
plan, and provide direct patient care. They work closely with
physicians and other health care professionals.

What Are the Admission
Eligibility Requirements?

Current
status as a Miami Dade degree-seeking student with all
pre-requisites college preparatory courses successfully completed
-
Cumulative
GPA of a 2.0 or higher for any college level courses completed
and a grade of C or above for any course required for the
Nursing Program
-
No more than
a total of 3 grades of D, F or W in the natural science
courses required for the Program -
-
No more than
2 enrollments (D, F or W) for any individual natural science course
required for the Program
Bridge Option

All of the above and LPN
licensure (or have educational preparation for a similar
health career)
Accelerated Option

Accelerated Option applicants must hold bachelors or higher
degrees from an accredited, domestic institution and are
exempt from the general education core courses, They must have
15 credits in any natural science/math courses, including
complete course(s) in human anatomy and physiology. CPT
reading scores of 78 or higher are required.
How Do I Apply?
-
Complete an
Application for Admission or Readmission to College Credit
Courses ($20).
-
Submit an
Application for Program Admission to the New Student Center
($25) by May 1 for Fall Term and September 1 for Spring term.

options are offered only as follows: Fall term; Full Time Generic, Full time Bridge, Part-time Generic. Spring term:
Generic Options, Full and Part- time Bridge, and Accelerated
Note: All
transcripts, applications, and fees must be received by the
deadline dates above.
How Will I Be
Selected?
All students who meet
basic admission requirements will be considered. Selection criteria will
be based on cumulative GPA and
successful completion of or enrollment in the required program
pre-requisite courses listed below:

CHM 1033 and
1033L
-
PHI 2604 and
ENC 1101
-
BSC 2085 and
2085L*
-
BSC 2086 and
2086L*
*Completed
within 10 years of program entry date
Applicants not selected may re-apply for a subsequent term.
Students who believe they have a valid reason to be granted an
exception to these requirements may appeal by securing a
petition form from the Medical Center Campus Registrar’s
Office or Academic Advisement department.
What are the Program
Graduation Requirements?

To earn the A.S. degree
in nursing, students must complete all courses or their
equivalent required in the curriculum
(72 credits) with a “C”
or better, including the required pre-requisite and
co-requisite courses designated for each option.

Nursing is a high demand
career with expanding opportunities. Graduates provide direct
patient care in hospitals, clinics, medical offices, schools,
home health, and in a variety of governmental and community
organizations, The A.S. degree in nursing articulates with
baccalaureate programs in Florida‘s State University System.
