Wasim Shomar, Director of the School of Design Technology-Kendall Campus, discussed the proposed name changes to the following five courses in the School of Design Technology:

CASSC
endorsed
the
proposed
name
changes
to
the
five
courses
in
the
School
of
Design
Technology
presented
by
Wasim
Shomar.
Wasim
Shomar
also
presented
three
additional
A.S.
degree
Design
Technology
programs.
They
include:
The
Computer
Engineering
Technology
Program,
the
Telecommunications
Engineering
Technology
Program,
and
the
Graphic
Internet
Technology
Program.
All
programs
have
been
funded
by
the
Department
of
Education
and
all
necessary
equipment
has
already
been
purchased.
Campus
CASCC
endorsed
the
three
additional
A.S.
degree
Design
Technology
programs
presented
by
Wasim
Shomar.
In
addition,
Wasim
Shomar
discussed
the
addition
of
twelve
College
Credit
Certificate
Programs,
all
of
which
are
subsets
of
an
entire
AS
degree
Program.
They
include:
Microcomputer
Repairer/Installer,
Computer
Specialist,
Network
Systems
Developer,
Electronics
Aide,
Electronics
Specialist,
Advanced
Electronic
Telecommunication
Specialist,
Computer
Aided
Design
Assistant,
Computer
Aided
Design
Operator,
Architectural
Office
Assistant,
Residential
Interior
Furnishings
Consultant,
Residential
Interior
Decorator,
and
Interior
Design
Specialist.
Wasim
Shomar
also
discussed
information
about
employment
opportunities
and
salary
ranges
for
all
new
programs
and
College
Certificate
Programs.
Campus
CASSC
endorsed
the
twelve
additional
College
Credit
Certificate
Programs
in
the
School
of
Design
Technology.
Babatunde Amole, Chair in the School of Allied Health Technologies-Medical Center Campus, presented information on the new Phlebotomy Technician Program. National certification requires that the changes to the current Phlebotomy Technician Program be enacted. With the new program, contact hours will increase by 90 hours, including 60 hours of practicum. Introduction to Healthcare-HSC 0001 will be added to the new program, and

Skills
will
be
removed.
Upon
completion
of
this
program,
students
will
be
in
demand
in
Florida,
as
well
as
when
they
relocate
outside
of
Florida.
Campus
CASSC
endorsed
the
new
Phlebotomy
Technician
Program.
Barbara
McElroy,
Chair
of
the
Business
Department-Wolfson
Campus,
presented
the
proposed
changes
to
the
Associate
in
Science
degrees
and
College
Credit
Certificates
in
Business
Administration.
The
new
transferable
AS
degree
includes
Business
Administration,
General
Business,
and
Management.
Banking
&
Financial
Institutions,
Food
&
Beverage
Exporting,
International
Business,
Marketing,
and
Real
Estate
have
to
be
moved
to
non-transferable
AS
programs.
The
School
of
Business
is
requesting
the
movement
of
the
Banking
and
Financial
Institutions
option
to
the
existing
AS
in
Financial
Services
and
the
other
four
options
into
a
new
AS
in
Marketing
Management.
Florida
International
University
has
approved
the
transferable
AS.
Changes
to
College
Credit
Certificates
include
changing
Accounting
Applications
from
23
credits
to
27
credits.
Also,
changing
Promotion
Management
from
27
credits
to
24
credits,
and
to
a
new
title
of
Marketing
Operations.
Small
Business
Management
will
be
changed
to
a
new
title
of
Business
Management.
Campus
CASSC
endorsed
the
proposed
changes
to
the
AS
degrees
and
College
Credit
Certificates
in
the
Business
Department.
Bob
Huff,
Chairperson
of
the
Arts
&
Philosophy
Department-Kendall
Campus,
presented
the
proposal
of
the
Arts
&
Philosophy
Department
to
offer
an
additional
course
to
their
program.
Students
have
expressed
an
interest
in
expanding
course
offerings
to
include
religions
in
the
United
States.
The
new
course
would
be
named
A
Survey
of
Religions
in
America
(REL
2120).
Campus
CASSC
endorsed
the
addition
of
the
new
religion
course.
Ralph
Covert,
Chairperson
of
the
Funeral
Services
Department-North
Campus,
discussed
a
change
being
requested
by
the
Funeral
Science
Department
and
the
North
Campus
Biology
Department
to
replace
the
current
Microbiology(MCB
2013)
course
requirement
for
funeral
science
students
to
a
Funeral
Science
Microbiology
course
that
will
align
more
with
the
competencies
identified
by
the
American
Board
of
Funeral
Services.
The
current
MCB
2013
may
contain
information
that
is
not
needed
by
funeral
science
students.
It
also
may
not
cover
pertinent
information
needed
by
funeral
science
students.
Campus
CASSC
endorsed
the
new
Funeral
Science
Microbiology
course.
Dr. Susan Kah, Academic Dean-Medical Center Campus, discussed a new course
ORH
2820-Irrigation
Design
&
Maintenance.
The
course
covers
the
design,
maintenance,
and
installation
of
nursery
and
landscape
irrigation
systems.
There
were
no
objections
to
adding
this
course.
Dr.
Susan
Kah,
Academic
Dean-Medical
Center
Campus,
discussed
the
Study
Abroad
Program
in
Architecture,
which
is
offered
in
the
School
of
Design
Technology.
This
department
revised
competencies
to
the
current
Study
Abroad
Program
courses.
Those
courses
are
An
Introduction
to
Cities
of
the
World,
Sketchbook
Studies,
and
Architectural
History.
Some
CASSC
members
expressed
concerns
regarding
the
required
materials
and
information
provided
to
students.
The
brevity
of
course
competencies
was
also
a
concern
for
some,
but
not
all.
Some
felt
that
the
competencies
were
broad
and
student
expectations
were
adequate
to
meet
the
demands
of
the
course.
Campus
CASSC
did
not
move
on
these
course
competencies.
Dr.
Susan
Kah
agreed
to
take
Campus
CASSC
concerns
to
College
CASSC.
Miguel
Menendez,
Chair
of
Learning
Resources-Medical
Campus,
reported
that
they
are
looking
at
a
new
testing
software
program
called
FAST
Test
Pro.
This
software
is
being
tested
as
a
trial
version,
and
the
last
phase
will
be
to
have
40-50
students
test
it.
Dr. Susan Kah reported that the PSC 1515- Energy in the Natural Environment and
BSC
1050-Biology
and
Environment
courses
passed
College
CASSC.
The
new
Oracle
Courses
were
also
approved.
Dr.
Lukenbill’s
recommendation
to
review
the
college’s
general
education
requirements
every
10
years
was
also
approved.
Carol Petrozella reported that a Disabilities Workshop will be held on April 9th from
12:30-2:00pm, in room 2110. A Bioethics Workshop will also be held on April 16th from
12:00-2:00pm,
in
room
2119.
There
will
also
be
a
workshop
on
Word
Basics
on
Saturday,
June
16th,
from
8:00am-5:00pm.
Continental
breakfast
and
lunch
will
be
provided.
CASSC
members
were
provided
a
list
of
the
recognition
dates.
They
were
encouraged
to
attend.
REPORT

FIU/MDCC
Day
(3/16/01)
Fran
Aronovitz
reported
that
she
met
with
the
Nursing
administrators
from
FIU
and
they
agreed
on
many
issues
regarding
the
AS
to
BS
articulation
agreement.
Carol
Miller
reported
that
the
meeting
with
other
Allied
Health
administrators
from
FIU
was
productive
as
well.
Richard
Prentiss,
Ken
Lee,
and
Lisa
Kokx
participated.
