The College has standardized on the Microsoft Office Suite of software applications, and each computer has those applications installed. Included in the suite:

  • Word
  • Access
  • Excel
  • Power Point
  • Outlook
  • Publisher
  • Internet Explorer
  • Netscape
  • MS Front Page

With the exception of Outlook, these applications run on your computer, and the files are stored on your home space on the network (drive H:). With MS Outlook, the program runs on your computer and the files are stored on the main MDC Exchange/Outlook server located at Kendall Campus. Storage space for Outlook files is limited and you should try to keep your email message boxes organized and delete those messages that are not needed.

There are a number of applications hosted by the College mainframe; the Odyssey system is the most common. To access these applications, another login name and password is needed.  To request an account for mainframe applications, information is available on the MDC web site

We do not currently prohibit installation of other software on the computer that is on your desk, but if any software is installed it must be legally licensed and must not violate copyright laws. Also, if locally installed software is illegal, or interferes with operation of the standard MDC applications, the computer, or the network, that software must be removed.
