WIRELESS LAPTOP COMPUTER LOAN GUIDELINES
The wireless laptop program is a service provided to the students of Miami Dade College, Medical Center Campus. The laptops are an extension to the student’s access to Library electronic resources and are to be used for academic purposes only. Laptops are housed in the Library and are for in-library use only. These guidelines cover the circulation and the use of college-owned wireless laptops in the Library.
Checking Out and Returning a Laptop
Laptop computers are checked out from, and returned to the Library Service Desk. A borrower must:
• Check out the laptop in person and present a current MDC student ID.
• Sign a Laptop Custody Statement that acknowledges the borrower’s
responsibility for loss or damage to a laptop.
• Inspect the laptop for any obvious physical damage and for the presence of all accessories prior to leaving the Library Service Desk.
• Wait for the inspection of the laptop when it is returned. (Note: Laptops will be checked out and checked back in while power is on).
• Remove any personal CDs or floppy disks before returning the laptop. Library staff will not be responsible for personal items or accessories left in the laptop.
Availability and Circulation Limits
• Laptops are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and may not be reserved ahead of time. Only one laptop may be checked out per person at a time.
• Check out is for three hours. A laptop may be renewed for an additional hour if no one is waiting for one.
• All laptops are due back to the Service Desk one hour before the library closes.

Damage or Destruction of Property, no. 10

• A borrower who removes a laptop from the Library will not be allowed to use a laptop again. A report will be made to Campus Security, Campus Chief Information Officer and the Dean of Students.
• If a laptop is not returned by closing time, it is presumed lost and the borrower will be charged the replacement cost as established by Miami Dade College Policy.
• The borrower will pay the full cost for any lost parts, hardware or software damage to a laptop in his or her possession, as established by Miami Dade College Policy.
Laptop Rules
• A laptop may only be used in the Library.
• Save all personal files to a disk or CD. The library is not responsible for any lost files.
• A laptop must never be left unattended for any reason (going to the restroom, going to the copy machine, sharpening pencils or going to lunch).
• The borrower is responsible for the laptop signed out to him/her.

• Laptop users will sign the statement below at the Service Desk.
WIRELESS LAPTOP RULES
I agree to assume full responsibility for any laptop computer issued to me by the Miami Dade College, Medical Center Campus Library. I agree to pay Miami Dade College for the cost of the laptop computer and/or any peripherals charged out to me that are lost, stolen, or damaged. I agree to pay any fines assessed to my account for failure to abide by the laptop computer circulation policy. Laptop battery lasts for four (4) hours.
