Did you know that you can ear college credit without having to take a class?
You can with DANTES and C.L.E.P.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!     It is the student's responsibility to contact the institution where they plan to use DANTES credits if any question exists concerning the acceptability of DANTES scores.

All interested students are encouraged to see an academic advisor before registering for an examination. Although nearly 2,500 colleges and universities throughout the country accept credits earned through DANTES, many others do not or may require a different level of  competency.

How do I schedule a DANTES exam?: (see also Steps to Follow for DANTES)
We offer flexible testing schedules for all exams. Please call the Testing Department for an appointment. Allow a minimum of 6 months before re-taking any exam, otherwise your exam will not be scored.

How do I register and pay the MDCC Service Fee? ($25 for first hour of testing, $15 each additional hour or part thereof):
A personal check payable to Miami-Dade Community College or cash must be presented on the day of the exam to cover the College's testing fees. Although the exam itself is untimed, a total testing time will be noted and examinees must present payment accordingly.  The first hour of testing or any part thereof is $25.  Any additional hour or part thereof is an additional $15 each.  Proof of payment must be presented before the exam is submitted.

How much is the DANTES Fee? ($35 per Test):
On the day of the examination candidates are responsible for bringing a money order or cashier's check made payable to CLEP, otherwise the EXAM WILL NOT BE ADMINISTERED AND ANY SERVICE FEES WILL BE FORFEITED.  Credit cards are also accepted.

How long in the test?
These tests are untimed and generally takes about 1 1/2 hours to complete a DANTES Subject Standardized Test; however, you may work longer if necessary.

How can I prepare for the Test?
For each test, there is a fact sheet that gives information about the topics that will be covered, books that would be useful for review, the number of questions on the test, and the score recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE) for credit. (You should check the passing score with your school; some have set higher standards than the ACE minimum recommendation.) Some of the fact sheets also contain sample test questions to give you an idea of what the test is like. Copies of these sheets are available without charge from the test administrator.

What test materials may I use to take the test?
The use of non-programmable calculators, slide rules, scratch paper and/or other materials is permitted for some of the tests. The test administrator has information about whether the test(s) you are planning to take fall into this category and which materials are permitted. If you wish to bring any materials into the test room, please check before testing to be sure they are permitted.

What special arrangement are there for handicapped students?
Special testing arrangements are authorized for handicapped students. If you are in need of this service, speak to your test administrator in advance of the testing date. A reader or writer may be used or other special arrangements may be made to accomodate special needs.

Can I retake the exam?
If you do not receive a score on the test that will enable you to obtain credit for the course, you may retest after six months. Please do not attempt to retake the test before the six months have elapsed because you will receive a score report marked invalid and any fees will be forfeited.

Score Cancellation
The test administrator is required to report any irregularities to Educational Testing Services (ETS).Bringing unauthorized materials into the testing room or giving or receiving any help will result in the forfeiture of your test fee. ETS reserves the right to cancel scores and not issue score reports in such situations.

Score Verification
If you have reason to believe that your scores were inaccurately reported, you may request to have your answer sheet hand scored. There is a $10 fee for this service. Please submit a check or money order for $10 payable to ETS-DANTES with your request in writing for score verification to: ETS, P.O.Box 6604, Princeton, NJ 08541-6604. Include your full name, the test title, the date you took the test and your Social Security number. We will notify you of the results of hand scoring and, if your scores were not accurate, a corrected score report will be forwarded to you and any school, to which score reports were sent.
