Background Notes-U.S. Department of State   This site provides a mini-overview on countries divided into their specific geographical regions. All information is dated and the site is updated periodically.
CIA World Factbook   Profiles of countries throughout the world compiled by the U.S. Government CIA Agency.
ENCARTA   Three references at one site: Encyclopedia, World English Dictionary and an Atlas Reference.
FOTW Flags Of The World   This site began as a discussion group in the early 1990s about the study of flags. It continues as such today with over 9900 pages and 18, 400 images.
Latin American Information Network Center   From the University of Texas at Austin, LANIC's mission is to "facilitate access to Internet-based information to, from, or on Latin America."
Library of Congress Country Studies   There are 101 country studies on this site. Each study is the online book version of the Area Handbooks Series published originally in hardcopy by the Library of Congress. (Note: Studies were published between 1988-1998)
Portals of the World   Compiled by area subject specialists from the Library of Congress, this site includes selective resource links for nations and areas around the world. An ongoing project, there are currently 49 nations listed.
United Nations University   Excellent source for maps and databases for countries around the world. Includes vector maps and extensive links to resources on the Internet.
