To the Members of Our Community and Visitors to our web site:
On behalf of the dedicated men and women of the Department of Public Safety it is my pleasure to welcome you to Miami Dade College, North Campus.
The Department of Public Safety is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment in which our faculty and staff can prepare our students for academic success now and career challenges in the future.
The safety and well being of our students, faculty, staff and visitors is our paramount priority. We are committed to building collaborative partnerships for the betterment of our entire community.
As members of the North Campus community, we all share the responsibility of maintaining a safe and healthy environment. The Department of Public Safety is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. There is always a campus patrol officer(s) on duty to respond to calls for service.
Public safety officers provide vehicle, bike and foot patrol throughout the campus actively looking for anything that appears suspicious or out of the ordinary.
Off-duty Miami Dade police officers provide added assistance and support to the Public Safety Department during operation hours, as well as during special events.
Everyone is encouraged to become familiar with the emergency blue telephones strategically place throughout the parking lots and inside each building. These telephones ring directly into the dispatch office thereby providing immediate assistance in the midst of a crisis.
Miami Dade College North Campus has recently installed a state of the art Mass Notification System. This "All Hazard" notification system will alert students, faculty, employees and visitors anywhere on campus or within campus facilities of critical situations on campus with the push of one button.
The safety you experience on campus is due in part to combined efforts of many different departments and individuals. Safety is a shared responsibility and we rely on every faculty, staff, and student to contribute to security on campus by reporting suspicious activities and using common sense precautions when going about daily activities.
Statistical and policy information is available and in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, formerly the Student Right to Know Act of 1990.
I hope you will take the time to get to know us. Understanding the Department of Public Safety and the services we provide will help make your experiences at Miami Dade College positive and rewarding. If you have any questions, please contact our office.
Respectfully,
Therese Homer
