 Scholarships
Miami-Dade College is pleased to announce the availability of Scholarships for the 2003-2004 academic year.  Various Scholarships from numerous donors are available to students who attend Miami-Dade College.  The Scholarships vary in amounts and requirements, depending on the particular scholarship programs.  Interested students are encouraged to complete and submit the Scholarship application on-line, and submit all additional "requested" supporting documentation to the Campus Scholarship Coordinators.

Minimum Eligibility for Scholarship Consideration

  • Completion and submission of Scholarship Application
  • Submission of all required supporting documentation
  • Students must be admitted to Miami-Dade College
  • Student must have completed a Federal Financial Aid Application for 2003-2004

Scholarship Deadline
Priority consideration will be given to students who complete and submit the Scholarship application on-line at www.mdc.edu/Scholarships by February 14, 2003

Scholarship Selection
The College Scholarship Committee will review and select Scholarship recipients.  Initial notification on Intent to Award will begin in March 2003.

Scholarships 2003-2004
CHILD CARE SCHOLARSHIP

Offered to students who have applied for Financial Aid, and have remaining unmet need.  Must have a 2.0 g.p.a. or better.  Student must take a minimum of six (6) credits each term, and provide receipts from the child care provider, must complete the Child-Care Scholarship Application.  $1000 maximum per academic year.

SENATOR CARRIE MEEK
SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

 

Offered to a North campus student with financial need, demonstrated civic/community involvement, must have a 2.5 g.p.a. or better, minority female, head of household. (submit proof with application)

MARY MORGAN MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT
Offered to former Filer Jr. High student who was actively involved in Jr. High intramural sports and senior high athletics. Second year MDC student athlete with a 3.0 g.p.a. or better.

HENRY LEE COMPANY
SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

Offered to dependents of Henry Lee Company employees with financial need and have a minimum 2.5 g.p.a.  or better. Students attend campus of choice.  Scholarship will cover $250 for tuition per semester.

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
ENDOWMENT

Offered to dependents of Metro-Dade Waste Employees.  Students attend campus of their choice. (submit proof with application)

TOMAS GARCIA FUSTE
 SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

Offered to students of Hispanic origin and have a high school diploma or equivalent.  Must need at least 40 credits to graduate with an Associate in Arts or Science degree.  Applicant must submit a 250-word essay explaining why the applicant needs scholarship assistance.

NON-ATHLETIC SERVICE GRANTS

Offered for service to the college and cannot exceed cost of 32 credits over the school year.  Award is made semester-by-semester.  This is a service or performance related award that should be made after the service is performed. Contact – Tere Martinez, Student Life, room 4208

INSTITUTIONAL FUNDS

Offered to students who do not qualify for federal grants.  Must demonstrate financial need.  Applicants must have family income that would result in Pell Grant indexes up to 9000, or must be ineligible due to immigration problems. Must apply for financial aid and been determined ineligible. Must complete “request form”.

FINE ARTS GRANT

Offered to students in the Fine Arts area on a term-by-term basis.  The student must take classes in the    appropriate discipline.  Must maintain a 3.0 g.p.a. or better in major coursework and a 2.0 g.p.a. or better      overall.  For theater award, student must be a full-time student.

MARY GORAD MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

 

Offered to students based on outstanding performance and quality of work or special projects related to Arts area – specific to ceramics.  Contact – Art/Philosophy Department, room 5226

PAULA MILTON MEMORIAL PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

Offered to an outstanding Arts department student.  Selected by Arts Department faculty. Contact – Michael Tesh, Art & Philosophy, room 5226

CHASE FEDERAL BANK  SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

Offered to full-time, degree-seeking students. Must be first year student in the Business field, having scholastic ability and financial need. Contact – Business Department, room 3242

M.L. “SHAG” DAYE MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

Offered to outstanding students majoring in Marketing.

Offered to a student selected by the department.

ALBERT AND ESTHER GREEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Offered to students pursuing a career in marketing.  This scholarship is based on need and achievement. Contact – Business Department, room 3242

MIAMI ASSOCIATION OF FOOD TRADES ENDOWMENT

Offered to students majoring in Business or students employed by the food trade industry.  Must have a 2.5 g.p.a. or better and be a permanent resident enrolled full-time or part-time due to employment.  Scholarship covers tuition and books. Contact – Business Department, room 3242

JULIUS & MARGARET SIRILO SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

Offered to a best contributing photographer on the campus newspaper.

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN SCHOLARSHIP

Offered to African-American students in architectural/building construction.

Offered to student in the field of Architecture and/or Engineering.

Offered to a student majoring in Travel & Tourism with a 2.5 g.p.a. or better.

FUNERAL SERVICE EDUCATION PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

Offered to full-time students in good academic standing and involved in the Funeral Service Education Program. Contact – Department Chairperson, room 3142

   

PHILBRICK ENDOWNMENT SCHOLARSHIP

 

Offered to students in the Funeral Service program.  Student must be a U.S. Citizen and must have completed 15 credit hours of funeral service coursework.  Student must not be receiving financial aid and must also write an essay (150 words) explaining why he/she has financial need.  Tuition only. RICHARD KOBLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

EARLY CHILDHOOD SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

ANNA ROSEN EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Offered to students to purchase books. The scholarship funds are also for the advancement of the Entrepreneurial Education Center. Contact – EEC Director

   

CHURCH’S FRIED CHICKEN  SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Offered for scholarships and program support for the Liberty City Entrepreneurial/Education Center. Contact –  EEC Director

   

HOWARD CARTER SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

Offered to students currently attending MDC, 2.8 g.p.a. or better, pursuing a major/minor in Foreign Languages. Contact – ESL Language Institute, room 7322      

   

NORTH DADE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE RISING STAR SCHOLARSHIP                                                             

Offered to full-time disabled student with an Arts and Letters major preferable in Performing Arts and having a 3.0 or above g.p.a.; who is a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen meeting Florida residency requirements for student aid.  The second scholarship is for $1,000 for a student who demonstrates commitment to the performing Arts through his/her work on the Rising Star! Annual Concert and/or is a student majoring in the arts or letters, preferably in the performing arts.  Number of awards based on availability of funds. THEATRE ARTS LEAGUE  SCHOLARSHIP

Offered to Fine Arts students, covers tuition and fees.  Student must audition if they are in Performing Arts program or submit a portfolio if they are in the Visual Arts program. Contact – Kenneth Boos, Communications, room 7305

   

FRANCES WOLFSON ART SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

Offered to a full-time Art major eligible to enter 2nd year with a 2.0 g.p.a. or better.  Must submit a portfolio to be examined by the chairpersons of the Fine Arts Department. Used for tuition, books, and art supplies.  Awards ceremony every May, recipients already selected for 2002. Contact – Chairperson, Art Department, room 5226

TONY CHERRY MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP

OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY/ DUNN & GRAHAM SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

Offered for Black male to cover tuition. Must have a 2.3 g.p.a. or better. Contact – James Lamar, Mathematics/Physics, room 7328

   

CHEMISTRY ALPHA SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

Offered to a chemistry student selected by scholarship committee. Contact – Chemistry Department Chairperson, room 1267-15

   
ATHLETIC SERVICE GRANT

Offered to students recruited to play various sports at MDC.  The amount of the award covers the cost of 16 credits per term for two major terms, 6 credits for spring/summer.  Must meet NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) guidelines. Contact- Jim Cox, Kendall Campus, room G-314 

P.E. WELLNESS CENTER PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP FUND
