What is MDC SMIF?

The Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) is a multi-faceted experiential learning

community at Miami Dade College (MDC). The primary education goal is to build

learning experiences that promote financial markets knowledge and team-building. Our

fund is more innovative because student-centered decision-making is at our core. At

What is the mission of MDC SMIF?

SMIF exists for experiential learning, building operational financial literacy among our

students and the community. We also aim to complement the expansion of financial

markets in Miami-Dade County by providing qualified interns for the expanding industry

workforce. We invite industry partners to help us deliver quality learning experiences,

grow our assets and pay it forward.New Paragraph

How is the MDC SMIF organized?

SMIF is open to all majors and all campuses. We are located in the Business Innovation

and Technology Center (BIT) on the Wolfson Campus. Our three student teams focus

on investment activities, communications, and oversight. In preparation for leadership

roles, freshmen manage a mock investment portfolio, become certified Bloomberg

terminal users, and attend training seminars. SMIF is completely funded with community

support and the MDC Foundation is our partner. The college foundation manages our

donor agreements and holds the assets of the fund. In the future, SMIF will support

scholarships with a portion of the returns. We invite community partners to grow with us.
