What is the PASS?

The PASS is a practice version of the Computerized Placement Test (CPT), which is part of the Florida College Entry-Level Placement Test.

Who can take the PASS?

The PASS is offered to new entering students, high school students, returning students, enrolled ESL students, and anyone else interested in knowing which courses they would be required to take based upon CPT scores.

Why should I take the PASS?

The PASS is a great way to measure your skill levels prior to taking the CPT.  By taking the PASS, you can become familiar with the format and content of the CPT.  In addition, it will help determine whether you need to concentrate on a particular skill area and/or seek appropriate assistance such as coursework or tutoring.

How do I sign up for the PASS?

The PASS is available at each of the campus Testing Departments  on an appointment only or walk-in basis.  Please contact the campus of your choice for an appointment and/or a PASS test schedule.

Is there a fee for taking the PASS?

No. There is no fee to take the PASS.

What specific skills are measured by the PASS?

Skills are measured in Reading, Writing and Algebra. The Algebra scores will be used to determine whether you also have to take the Arithmetic subtest or the College Level Mathematics subtest.

What is the total testing time for the PASS?

The PASS is not timed, although students usually finish in approximately two hours.

When will the results be available?

The test results are available immediately following the test.

Are the PASS scores used for class selection?

No. The scores will serve as a guide and will be a good indicator of where you would place on the CPT.

How many times can the PASS be taken?

M-DCC students may retest once on each subtest of the PASS within one calendar year.  High school students may retake the PASS as needed.
